A Stephen Wilson Studio Exhibit
I worked together with artist Stephen Wilson to develop several pieces for his Americana exhibit. The pieces were inspired in Old West themes and historical personalities.
The focus of the exhibit was the concept of a myriad of small modules coming together to form larger pieces. In turn, each larger piece was also incorporated into an even larger whole, resulting in massive, 224 square-foot mural that included 35 million stitches.
Part of my work involved creating diagrams to problem-solve how smaller pieces could fit together into the larger modules in a balanced way and creating a few technical drawings.
My favorite part of the project was having the opportunity to draw a couple of large pieces in full. These were high-impact pieces of artwork that became some of the highlights of the exhibit and were transformed into embroidery in a couple of different ways.

Rise Up
We can do it!
The Rise Up artwork was inspired in the iconic “Rosie the Riveter,” but with an urban, Western twist. I created a few different color variations for this piece. Besides being one of the main large pieces in the Americana exhibit, Stephen Wilson also turned them into “The Edition,” the only works on paper of the series, by combining a three-dimensional collage of archival prints and adding embroidery throughout.

Cowgirl Tattoo - this piece did not become a part of the Americana exhibit
The Cowgirl and Rise Up pieces were turned into 36x36 art pieces made out of 2” wooden blocks. Each block was wrapped in twill embroidered with themed icons and placed to form the full picture. To see more of Stephen Wilson’s fine art work, check out his website.

Americana Swag
We published a hardcover book to tell the story of each Americana art piece and the whole concept behind the exhibit. I created the cover art and had it engraved in wood and photographed for the cover. I also created the layout and design for the entire book.
I also adapted the same art into VIP invitations for the Americana exhibit. We wood-engraved each invitation with the artwork and the name of each guest, who received them in a custom-made package.
The Cowgirl and Rise Up pieces can be seen in the final work of art by Stephen Wilson.
