Animal Adventure

This was a baby quilting collection released by Anita Goodesign that included a series of animal characters. The goal was to design quilt blocks that showcased these friendly characters going in and out of the block frames for a dynamic and unique quilt layout concept.

I designed most of the characters (shown below) and art-directed another artist to create the remaining characters.

The collection became one of the company’s all-time best sellers, and many other collections where created based on these animal characters.

Each animal character was represented in a number of ways for the collection. These included a variety from blocks featuring poses to typographical designs, and even blocks showcasing a short rhyme to describe each animal (which I also wrote).

* Illustrations which include darker outlines around certain animal features are required for technical purposes to indicate the need for fabric appliqué in the final embroidered product.

From Pen to Needle

When the time came for the illustrations to be translated into stitches, my role in directing the look and feel of the collection began. From picking the right colorway that is both neutral and childlike, but also has a modern feel, to balancing the multitude of patterns and textures for a cohesive look, I was instrumental in putting together a product that became a hit with our customers.
